WHO WE ARE ...

The Cape Ann Social Club is a peer run, community based, educational, recreational, and support program for adults. Grants, private donations, and dues help defray the cost of activities and make them affordable.

Members are encouraged to acquire and maintain the physical, cognitive, and social skills necessary for living enriched lives, as well as for achieving personal goals.

Self determination and freedom of choice are key elements at membership meetings. The members plan and evaluate the program and develop policies. Meetings are facilitated by the Board of Directors and the opinion of each member is valued.

Participation in the club is entirely voluntary. Your interest, participation and suggestions are welcome.

WHAT WE DO ...

Members Participate in Community Activities, Social Events, and Local Service Projects.

The Group provides an opportunity for individuals to be with others who can help them with some of life’s struggles.

It is a place where people understand and support one another through the stresses of traumatic life experiences.

Members enjoy various social and recreational activities, cultural events, movies, pot luck meals, and fitness activities at the “Y.”

There is a weekly Arts and Crafts evening, led by a local artist. A favorite activity is a monthly karaoke party.

The Cape Ann Social Club is a peer run registered non-profit corporation with an Board of Directors elected from among the members. When organized as an independent entity after state funding for the program was cut in 2008, the club adopted as its motto, “Learning to Fly.”

Most of the activities take place on Cape Ann, but there are no geographic requirements for membership. Several members are residents of other North Shore communities. Every effort is made to insure that the activities are safe, enjoyable, accessible, and affordable.
